Something New!

What a great discussion we had in class this morning. I always come away feeling that I have learned far more from each of you than anything I have put together for the lesson. If you were in class today you may remember that I briefly mentioned that I have a blog. Well, now I have two blogs; but this one is just for members of our Community Group. I have been thinking for sometime that this might be a great way to extend our class conversations throughout the week. It will allow us to continue discussions that were begun in class or share insights that may come a few hours or even a few days later. We can also use it to post announcements, activities and share praise stories with each other. I think the possibilities are endless.
When you read this you will have an opportunity to make a comment at the bottom of this post. When you have completed your comment you need to click on Select Profile. You probably don't have one already set up, so what you need to do is to click on google account. When you enter that you will be directed to a page that will allow you to create an account. There is no cost to this account and you won't get e-mail messages on it. It just allows you to communicate with the blog.
So, welcome to the electronic world of blogging. Hopefully, this will be helpful, insightful and fun. Have a great week.
Barbara

  1. Hi, I couldn't resist looking to see what this was about. I can only say, what next, with an exclamation, not a question mark! I'm speechless, though I can still write.

  2. My favorite scripture is Psalms 118:24
John and I really miss you guys. You are a hard act to replace! What a glorious Lord's Day.

  3. Hooray!! Another way to stay in touch and share with the church family that is so dear. Is there anyway to post the prayer and praise requests? I would love to see follow-up on our various prayer requests as it helps direct our prayer and build our faith.

Today Barbara commented about focusing her attention on the name of God in order to eliminate the distractions. I have used that same discipline for a number of years to help calm anxious or racing thoughts. Sometimes the Names of God are my prayer. Knowing His names helps me to understand more about Him and His character.

Thanks for the great class today, Barbara -- you had a great opening "act" in the church service. Vernon's message on sharing the message of eternal lfe and God's love and justice was both convicting and motivating.

Let's not be a church full of people that practice religion, but rather a church-family that is always ready to adopt another brother or sister into the body of Christ.

  4. Hi all,

I'm still wrestling with notion of "trusting God" and for lack of a better phrasing 'avoiding passivity.' Someday I'll figure it out, especially with the help of our friends in the group.

  5. I think we all wrestle with this from time to time. I would suggest you try reading 1 Samuel 14:1-14. Jonathan is taking action but he wants to do the Lord's will. So, Jonathan does what he knows to do (he is a soldier and he understands war strategies). He also knows that God is on his side and not the side of the Philistines. Read thru these verses and see what insights you get into this dilemma. bjc

  6. Well, this is fun. It serves as kind of an insider email.
Some have called our class family the best class at PVBC. There are several reasons for that conclusion.
First, all of you all are quick to adopt a new person into the family. Just as God has adopted you into His. And, don't Gary and Toni do a great job of being the gatekeeper welcoming all who come? Then, the rest of you take over and just love a new person right into our class and into our hearts.
    Second, we have great teaching!
    Third, we have great fellowship!
    Fourth, we have great caring!
Fifth, we are a family that prays together!
Each one is a valuable part of our class. And, every one of you mean so much to Rita and I. Thank you all for being part of our class and our lives. DP

Dale, your description of our class was right on the mark. Another thing that might be mentioned would be the care and/or dinner groups. These much smaller gatherings provide an even better opportunity for getting acquainted with other members of the class--and I do think this is vital for the growth of our class.

  8. You certainly are right on this, Faye. We are looking for ways we can improve the functioning and effectiveness of these groups. If you have any ideas please share them with me or Rita, or right here on this page. We would be interested to hear from anyone else in the class on this subject, too.

  9. My only comment is that perhaps we are trying to do too much by having both dinner and care groups--since they both seek to accomplish the same purpose. This is especially true for those people who serve as leaders in both categories.
I do think the concept of having the class broken down into somewhat smaller numbers, for the purpose of strengthening the bonds of friendship, is a good idea.

  10. Your thoughts mirror what several of us have been thinking. The original purpose of the two types of groups was different but it has gotten muddied over time. Thanks for your input.

  11. Hi everyone -
This is so neat! I love the idea of keeping in touch with people this way. We all have such busy lives and this makes it real easy to chat with each other when it's convenient for each person. I want to take a minute to thank all of you that have supported me and given me such encouragement these last couple of weeks. You all mean so much to John and I. I agree with Dale - our group is the best!
